Architectural BendsBENDCO can bend steel into just about anything, from tiny coils used in heart transplants to 40-ft tall football helmets. For over two decades BENDCO has bent flat bars, square tubes, pipes, coils and beams. The Pasadena-based company recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Jim Friery, CEO, recalled "For 20 years, I was a superintendent at Armco Steel Plant in Houston. I left Armco in 1982, yet I was not ready for retirement. My extensive experience in the steel business indicated there was a need for structural and pipe bending." "For 25 years, BENDCO has built its reputation as a high quality custom bending company, offering the widest range of bending services in the South. We maintain this same high quality, reliability and economy in every job we produce," explained Friery. Friery considers Houston's Reliant Stadium as BENDCO's most innovative project. The company used HSS/Steel tubing and furnished all cold and induction bends. BENDCO met all of the requirements by using tube bends on each end of the retractable roof. Employing 85 skilled men and women at an 80,000-sf facility, Friery said many of his skilled engineers and shop personnel have been with the company since the early eighties. BENDCO serves the following industries: architectural, contractor, general fabricator, refining, petrochemical, shipbuilding, offshore, petroleum and paper processing. "In 1999, BENDCO designed and constructed a three million-dollar induction bending machine," continued Friery. This milestone was one of our proudest times. We take extreme pride In the abilities and strengths that our operators demonstrate out in the shop, on a daily basis." According to Friery, BENDCO is currently exploring a new concept in freeway sign supports. The simplified approach uses bent pipe in sections for vertical supports and matching pipe sections to span the roadway and display the signs. "Our company is in a unique position to produce bends for these sign supports, since we are the only company in the re-g ion that is capable of induction bending 36 inch diameter pipe with up to two and a half inch wall thickness." Friery mentioned, "In addition we now have a 760 ton Hydraulic Cambering Machine that is capable of cambering up to a 42" WF beam." BENDCO
has furnished HSS steel tubing for the John Wayne O'Hare Airport in Orange
County, CA, the entrance and canopy for Sea World in San Antonio, the
icons for the Disney World All Star Hotel in Orlando, FL and the tubing
bends for Epcot Center. "In the future, we would like to expand our operations into a worldwide market and design and build our fourth induction machine,"concluded Friery.

assemblies range from 1/2" and continue through 4" diameter. (Larger sizes
may be purchased from the Bending and Coiling Division.) Parts can be
produced with flared ends, beaded ends and welded or brazed end fittings.
